Our young players played well against Mauritius – Rigobert Song

The performance of the Indomitable Lions in the 3-0 victory over Mauritius on Friday, was hailed by Rigobert Song, who appreciated the display of the team’s debutants.

Striker Faris Pem Moumbagna had his first appearance, while Frank Magri and Kevin Nkoudou scored their first goals with the national team.

In the post-match press conference of the World Cup qualifier played at the Japoma stadium in Douala, the coach said the game plan 3-4-3 used, enabled him to explore a new approach, adding that it came with its difficulties.

“With the 3-4-3, there were some difficulties but the essential thing was done. There’s more to be done in the days ahead” Song said.

The captain of Mauritius, Lindsay Rose, conceded that they faced a superior side. “I don’t want to give excuses. Cameroon was better than us” he acknowledged in his post-match reaction.

Lindsay added that “we had players who had never played in front of such a large number of spectators”. The biggest stadium in Mauritius has a capacity of 16,000 seats, which is smaller compared to the Japoma stadium of 50,000 places.

Cameroon’s next game comes up against Libya in Benghazi on November 21.
