By Stephen TADAHA

Thursday November 16, 2023 was a dark day in Bagam, a second class village in Galim subdivision in the Bamboutos division of the West Region as two persons lost their lives and many others sustained injuries as a result of an altercation between security forces and the local population.

The incident occurred during the contact tour of Fongtendop Zossie Dieudonne, leader of a faction claiming legal rights to the Bagam throne and backed by the administration. The contact tour which began a week ago without hitches in some neighborhoods of the village, saw tension on its final day at the Centre Square of the village on Thursday.

A furious population with local weapons, opposing Fongtendop as heir to the throne, stormed the streets and clashed with security forces who were deployed for the contact tour. As a result two persons were shot death and many others injured on both sides with local weapons seized by security forces.

The opposing faction claim their leader, Moyebe Nzossie Mathurin is the legal heir. Moyebe Nzossie Mathurin was recently arrested and levied a 15-day detention under the instructions of Governor Awa Fonka.

The succession crisis has been ongoing since the passing on to glory of the 14th king if Bagam, HRM Fon Tenkeu Nzossie Jean Marie in 2020.
