Ngannou: “I’m back in the country to rest”

Francis Ngannou is in Cameroon to have some rest after his historic fight against Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The MMA lineal heavyweight champion put up an impressive fight against world heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, on October 28, and has since been praised for his incredible skills in the domain.

It took Francis less than four months to train and get ready to box against Tyson Fury.

Many believe he was robbed of victory by the judges whose results showed that the MMA fighter lost by a split decision.

“I was not surprised. I expected it” Ngannou told the CRTV, Cameroon’s state broadcaster in his first official interview on his return to Cameroon.

“I had the option to either shift backwards or fall down and I refused to fall down. They needed something to do in order to save the image of boxing,” he added. “It could destabilize all of the ecosystem of the sport that is in place and which is a big business.”

Ngannou said his next fight might come up in February or March 2024. “I don’t yet know if it will be in boxing or in the MMA,” he noted.
