Man impersonating Nairobi Lawyer called out

The Nairobi branch of the Law Society of Kenya cautioned members and the general public that the man impersonated their colleague because they have the same name.

“Members are encouraged to share any information of any person masquerading as an Advocate for the necessary action. The Branch wishes to notify all members of the society and of the public that BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, from the Society’s records, neither is he a member of the Branch.”

Kenyan outlet, Citizen Digital reports that the Law Society of Kenya noticed that their member could no longer log into his account after “Brian Mwenda stole the identity of a lawyer with a name which is similar to his – Brian Mwenda Ntwiga – after the legitimate lawyer reached out to the Secretariat after realizing that he could no longer log into the system,” CD reported.

Section 313 Kenya’s Penal Code provides that “Any person who by any false pretense, and with intent to defraud, obtains from any other person anything capable of being stolen, or induces any other person to deliver to any person anything capable of being stolen, is guilty of a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”

other sources which CNA could not confirm said the man had been practicing and even won 26 cases. It was confirmed that he is a level 2 law student who has not yet been called to the Bar.
