Amnesty International condemns Guzang killings, urges authorities to investigate the incident

The human rights group, Amnesty International has in a report published on its site on Friday, October 6, 2023, condemned the execution of two civilians at the Guzang market square in Batibo subdivision, Momo Division of the North West region on October 4 by armed separatists, in the watchful eyes of the population.

The Non-Governmental Organization said ‘unacceptable’ crime should not go unpunished.

“This heinous crime is yet another manifestation of the daily horror experienced by the inhabitants of the towns and villages in the Anglophone regions over which armed groups are trying to impose their control”. Noted the West and Central Africa Director of Amnesty International, Samira Daoud.

Amnesty International indicated that its Evidence Lab keenly verified the video that went viral on social media, before responding to the unlawful killings. It added, the Ambazonia Governing Council, linked to the Ambazonia Defence Forces armed group, claimed responsibility for the Guzang incident.

Amnesty International also urged the government of Cameroon not to allow the page of the incident to be turned without justice done.

” Authorities in Cameroon must immediately take steps to investigate all allegations of human rights abuses committed by both State forces and armed groups and prevent more abuses from happening”. The rights group ordered.

In a press release signed on October 5, 2023, the SDO for Momo Division condemned the killings and announced investigation would be opened to track down the perpetrators.
