MINREX boss says despite episodic outbreaks of violence, peace is evident in the Anglophone regions

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella has said peace and prosperity are gradually returning to the Northwest and Southwest thanks to the proactive actions of the government in the wake of the recommendations of the major national dialogue.

He was speaking during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2023, in New York, USA.

His address dwelled on the possible ways used by the government to resolve the political crisis in the Northwest and South West regions and the insurgencies in the Far North region and called on other member countries to implement these strategies.

According to the Minister, it is thanks to the proactive actions of the government that peace is gradually returning to the Anglophone regions.

“The effective implementation of the presidential plan for reconstruction enables us to think that economic development and sustainable peace and security will inevitably return to these regions,” he stated.

He also noted that Africa is gradually implementing its own 2063 Agenda and other Africa-wide agreements to achieve peace and security, good governance, and shared prosperity for all although the expected consequences are not forthcoming due to the insufficient means to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

He called on other African nations to resolve conflicts through dialogue, promote a renewed global financial architecture, and “work endlessly” to seek equitable development.

His meeting with the UNSG also focused on the Anglophone regions.
