Nigeria: Court sentences former chief state pharmacist to life imprisonment for raping 12-year-old boy

The High Court of the Federal Capital in Kubwa, Abuja, Nigeria has sentenced Dr. Abubakar Mustapha Danraka, a former Chief Pharmacist of the National Hospital, Abuja, to life imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old boy, Sahara Reporters has confirmed.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) spokesman, Vincent Adekoye on September 19, 2023.

According to the statement, the ruling brought to an end the three-year-old controversy surrounding the case.

Sahara Reporter noted that Dr. Abubakar Danraka was arrested on March 27, 2020, for defiling a minor who happened to be his neighbor, living in the same estate with him in Abuja.

He is said to have “lured the victim to his apartment and sexually assaulted him after drugging him”.

He was convicted of rape under Section 1 of the VAPP Act of 2015 and sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Asmau Akanbi-Yusuf of the federal high court Abuja.
