Sanctioned GCE candidates deny exam malpractice allegations

Some of the candidates who were sanctioned by the General Certificate of Education board, GCE, for examination malpractices during the 2022-2023 session have denied any involvement in the act.
“When the GCE results came out, I did not hear my name or see in the PDF, I was sure I had failed but I was shocked when I went to collect my slip and I saw a three-year ban. This came as a surprise to me because I know I wrote so well and no invigilator came to me to complain or even sign on my paper,” one of the sanctioned students explained.
Another in frustration stated: “I was given a one-year ban. I do not know how it happened because throughout the exams, I did nothing wrong. No invigilator even complained about me. I am so confused, I do not know what happened.”
“This my daughter is very intelligent. I cannot imagine what will happen to her after three years. I do not know whether they want her to go and get married or what. All her dreams will be shattered,” a parent lamented.
It was revealed by state media CRTV, on August 7, 2023, that 693 candidates were caught with pre-prepared material, 994 were accused of collusion, 189 had cellphones, 6 were accused of script substitution, 8 for impersonation and 1 for violence.
The sanctions range from 1-3 years.
