Far North: at least 8 fishermen killed in Boko haram attacks

About eight fishermen have been killed by elements of the Boko Haram cult in the locality of Darak in the Lagone and Chari division of the Far North region

The incident took place on August 2, 2023, on the shores of Lake Chad.

According to reports, the cult was deployed to levy taxes on fishing activity in that locality. They were however met with stiff resistance from the fishermen. Boko haram militants then decided to put an end to their lives and most of them were found with their throats slit.

According to the President of the fishermen’s association of Darak, Abba Kabir, it was an attack by the Boko Haram sect as their bodies had received several bullets.
“Wednesday evening, we found the bodies of six fishermen floating on the water at the height of Karakaya Island located in the canton of Darak”

This locality has been a target of Boko Haram attackers for years now. Last February, it was reported that six persons all fishermen suffered the same fate after militants of the cult demanded for fishing levy in the Logone and Chari division.
