Zogo’s lawyers say procedure carried out by Beliga lawyers unfounded
Lawyers of murdered journalist Martinez Zogo have denounced and declared “unfounded and pointless” the procedures being carried out by defense lawyers of Amougou Belinga to have their client released.
This opinion is contained in a release dated April 5th signed by the collective lawyers.
They noted a violation of their right to have a copy of the proceedings in complaints filed at the Central court of appeal.
It should be recalled that Amougou Belinga’s lawyers were demanding a copy of the preliminary investigations of the case to adequately defend their client. This was contained in another letter addressed to the investigating judge at the Yaounde military court on March 24th.
They also revealed that some of the accused, including those responsible for the most serious charges, have requested their release on bail .
The lawyers stated that with regard to bail, the law in force prohibits it in criminal matters especially when life imprisonment is underway and they cited “Article 224(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure” as well as the case with regard to torture “Art. 277-3 of the Penal Code”.
