Dencia sues Brenda Biya for defamation
Cameroonian entrepreneur, music artist, and influencer Reprudentia Sonkey popularly known as Dencia, has Sued Cameroon’s first daughter, Brenda Biya for defamation of character, emotional distress and is demanding the sum of USD 120million (over 73 Billion FCFA) for damages caused.
In a court file dated March 15th, 2023 for the Superior Court of California County Los Angeles, Dencia demands compensation for medical and future medical expenses, loss of earnings, and punitive damages incurred.
It should be recalled that in 2021 Dencia had threatened to drag Brenda Biya to court still on defamation charges. This came weeks after Brenda Biya made a public statement saying Dencia created a fake Instagram account in her name. The singer reacted by filing a case against her.
Both celebrities have been at loggerheads with each other on social media for a long time now.
According to US law, If found guilty of defamation of character, Brenda could be liable to 1 – 5 years in imprisonment with a fine of at least USD 30,000 and above depending on the degree of defamation and the cost of a defamation case will increase if a victim is seeking monetary relief, such as payment for lost business, missed work, medical bills, emotional distress and punitive damages.
