CTFP reacts to repeated power outages in Douala stadium
The power outage paralyzed activities of journalists at the Bepanda Reunification stadium on Sunday, March 12, 2023, during day 16 matches of the Elite One football championship. The Secretary General of the Transitional Council of Professional Football (CTFP), in a communique on Tuesday, March 14 assured that measures have been taken to avoid such an incident in the future.
” The power cut plunged the public into the darkness and prevented journalists from continuing with the traditional end-of-game interviews. Arrangements have already been made to avoid repeated incidents of this nature, we all regret deeply the unfortunate incident.” The CTFP Secretary-General mentioned this in the communique.
Journalists have also been flattered with a reminder of the special treats reserved for them throughout the championship. This was on the heels of apologies.
“The CTFP wishes to present its sincere apologies to the public on the one hand, and particularly to the journalists who have been disturbed in the execution of their tasks at the Reunification Stadium in Douala. In addition, the CTFP would like to reaffirm the consideration it gives to journalists in general and to sports journalists in particular, of whom it has made privileged partners in the pursuit of its missions.” Added the CTFP Secretary General.
As regards the stewards whose attitudes have been denounced by the public, the CTFP in the same communique says it has taken note of it and would like to reassure the public and other stakeholders that measures are being considered by the President of FECAFOOT to ensure the proper training of this personnel so that those detested and unacceptable behaviors are buried never to resurface.
This is not the first time the stadium has witnessed a power outage. On January 18, 2021, during the match Rwanda vs Uganda, in the 6th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon, the entire stadium went into darkness fro a while before electrify was resupplied.
