CNYC to fight drug consumption, seek peace in the North West region

By Nukapuh P.

The Cameroon National Youth Council, CNYC has disclosed that drug consumption and peace are two vital points in their three-year plan of action to be implemented in the North West region.

This was made known during the installation ceremony of the regional bureau of CNYC for the North West region by the Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique in the presence of the National president of CNYC, Fadimatou Ousmanou and the regional delegate of youth affairs and civics education.

“We have to sensitize them to stay away from drugs and alcohol consumption in schools, which is something that is becoming rampant. Also, they have to stay away from violence and be ambassadors of peace,” Fadimatou said.

“We already started to reduce the issue of drug consumption among youths. We sent some youths to different schools, and quarters to sensitize them on drug abuse, gender-based violence, and many others. The sensitization was effective, so that’s why there was a massive turnout during the youth day celebration in the town. At least most of the youths now know they have a civic responsibility toward nation-building. We have to continue with the sensitization and hopefully, our goals will be met,” Mekom Samuel said

Governor Adolphe Lele called on the new executive bureau headed by Mokom Samuel to work closely with authorities of the region and most importantly, to respect the laws and authorities above them.

“On behalf of the Head of State and the ministry of youth affairs and civics education, I am tasking you to be respectful and work according to the laws of governing the country,” The Governor said.

“It is your responsibility to gather the youths so that you all can bring back peace in the North West region”

The regional delegate of youth affairs and civics education, Odilia Fri called on the newly installed executive bureau to always come to her office when they need assistance to realize their projects.

While in Bamenda, the national president of CNYC, Fadimatou Ousmanou took part in the 2023 open business day, which was celebrated at GBHS Bamendankwe.

Together with the newly installed executive bureau for the North West region, they distributed peace messages to students and called on them to avoid drug consumption, especially in the school environment.
