Vendors of women’s day fabric lament over unsold stock

The 2023 edition of International Women’s Day is now in the past, but vendors of the official outfit are still in disbelief over the low sales recorded.
A day after the feast, a lady realizes she has not been able to sell a tenth of the merchandise she had stocked.
Out of 150 women’s day dresses sewn for the March 8 celebration, only 10 are sold, Mama Gertrude reveals.
She says she is ready to take anything for the dresses. “The kaba that I paid at 10,000 FCFA, they come and ask me for 1,500 FCFA this morning”.
“Yesterday, others were paying 5,000 FCFA. I said it is even better. Whatever thing I’m given now, I’ll take it” the seamstress says, “Will I eat the dresses!”.
Several women who took part in the March 8 activities, say the day is over and “the dresses are now useless”.
It should be recalled that the cost of the women’s day fabric this year rose from 6,800 FCFA to 10,000 FCFA. Some suggest that is the reason why many people did not buy.
This year’s edition was the 38th, and was celebrated under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.
