Ngomedzap: councillors call for suspension of mayor

A group of 15 out of the 25 councillors in the Ngomedzap municipality, in the Nyong and So’o division of the Centre region, have accused Mayor Regine Bleue Tsoungui of misappropriation of funds, and have called for her suspension.

The sum of F CFA 174 million is said to have disappeared under the leadership of the Mayor, who took charge after the 2020 municipal and legislative elections.

“We are proposing to state authorities according to the texts, the suspension of the Mayor for grave violations, proposing the convocation of an extraordinary session by the representative of the state, and also the designation of an interim,” Francis Essomba, President of the Finance Commission of the council said.

“We cannot keep someone who misappropriates such an amount of money,” a displeased councillor added.

After being asked to give an explanation on the allegations levied against her, the Mayor is said to have presented a false document “it further aggravated the situation” another member of the protesting group indicated.

The councillors say they have consulted the hierarchy of their political party, the CPDM, on several occasions, but nothing has been done. They are now putting pressure on the State authorities to intervene.
