Tikars, Bamouns agree to bury differences

The Bamoun-Tikar crisis has come to an end after West Governor Awa Fonka Augustine advised both communities to choose peace for the benefit of all.

The peace talk was held in Bafoussam on Friday February 17, 2023. The meeting was attended by Sultan Nabil Mbombo Njoya, traditional rulers of the Magba community, the Manda, Mambungam, Matta and Mabunko Villages including administrative authorities from the division headed by the Senior Divisional Officer, Donasin Um. This was the very first meeting between the Sultan of the Bamoun poeple and the people of Magba ever since both communities fell out during the Sultan’s tour in the locality.

“This is the first time we are coming together in a meeting to discuss peace and when I got the Governor’s invitation, I could not turn it down. I am happy there is peace between us and we appreciate the Governor’s efforts because indeed when we fight, the masses suffer the most and two can never agree except they work together,” Sultan Njoya said.

“It is high time the two communities come together for not just a hand shake of peace but a sincere acceptance for peace to reign. This is for the benefit of everyone most especially the locals of these two communities. I heard and saw the fightings between the two communities and I was not happy. No two communities should be at loggerheads in this era. Without peace, there is absolutely no means of development as two can only come together, work together when there is friendship and that is my main objective and goal for organizing this meetin. The chiefs should note that they are not only traditional rulers but fathers to their people that they lead and should be examples worth emulating,” Governor Awa Fonka Augustine added.

“The incident and fighting occurred in my palace and I am not proud of it. My people only defended their King and their tradition. Today we are here for peace and I am happy we got it and the Governor is right, there is no development without peace and the two communities will henceforth work closely for everyone’s benefit. We thank the Governor for such an initiative,” Chief Ngamoung Sule lll of the Magba community said.

The wish of the administrative authorities is that peace should reign between the two communities.
