Douala: 2 human bone traffickers from Bamenda apprehended
Two men have been arrested by security forces in Douala for human bone trafficking . The suspects were transporting the bones from Babessi in the North West region to Douala.
The bones were found in a bag containing garri and maize which they transported through an inter-urban travel agency.
According to the superintendent of police in charge of the anti-criminal unit, Opawa Christian, the suspects intended to sell the human bones:
“They confessed to us and told us all about the transaction. They said they had to come and sell it here in Douala for the sum of about F CFA 10 million.”
The suspects named Brandon Mbah and Njoya Mohamed both 21 years old were arrested at a travel agency in Douala upon their arrival. This follows a tip-off given to the security officials who after reporting to their hierarchy were authorized to apprehend the suspects.
According to one of the suspects, Mohammed, his friend Brandon told him about the human bones he found while digging a foundation, and he immediately proposed they sell it but he refused.
“I have all the WhatsApp proof of my refusal, he begged me to come to his house which I did but remained adamant about the decision. Since he was begging I decided to contact a friend of mine in Douala asking if he knows any potential buyer of human bones and he decided to help. That is how I helped Brandon travel with the bones to Douala because he is an anglophone and could not express himself in French when being stopped at control posts for questioning,” Mohammed explained.
Investigations are still ongoing at the criminal unit and the file will be forwarded to the judicial police for the suspects to be taken to court to answer charges levied against them.
