Over 200 peer educators trained to use social media responsibly

With the advent of Social media, cyber criminality has been on a rise in Cameroon.
In this regard, a training session on the responsible use of social media was launched by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng on February 8th in Yaounde.

The session is reported to be part of the national campaign for the promotion of cybersecurity culture and awareness of the responsible use of social networks carried out under the instructions of the Head of State, Paul Biya.

According to the Minister, this program aims at strengthening the capacities of students from higher education institutions.

For Minette Libom Li Likeng, this phase is crucial because students and young people are the age group most exposed to the dangers of the internet,
“Young people must be educated and sensitized, they are the highest users of these platforms,” she explained.

Fact-checking, information verification techniques, legal provisions on cybercrime, and cybersecurity were the key points of the teachings.

The Minister concluded by saying with regard to the skills being taught by the speakers and the determination of the students, she is convinced that proper awareness has been made of the proper use of social networks by young people.
