Yaounde: Mayor endorses new household waste disposal company

Passing across some major neighborhoods in Yaounde one can’t help but notice the countless piles of dirt which litter the major roads.
For several months now the hygiene and Sanitation Company, HYSACAM, has been slow in carrying out its duties.

Hysacam has been going on a series of strikes for unpaid salaries and other benefits hence the slow execution of the duties.

It is in this light that the Yaounde city Mayor, Luc Messi Atangana, on Jnauary 23rd endorsed a new company Thychlof Sarl to assist HYSACAM in the collection and disposal of household wastes in the city.

According to the Mayor, HYSACAM was alone until now and in just a little while, the Mayor is overwhelmed by the volume of work the new operator has done for a few months.

For the Director of Financial Affairs at Thychlof Sarl, Charles Onana Mvondo, their coming will help improve the city’s state of cleanliness:

“Our contribution will be truly visible because we will support in terms of garbage collection and transport. We have begun activities particularly in the Yaounde III district with a first fleet consisting of five dump trucks”.

The company however plans to increase its equipment for greater efficiency.

“It is a question of moving gradually and rationally. This is why it was necessary to increase the number of trucks. There are 5 garbage trucks currently in the field. Seven will be added. There are 7 others at the seaport and they will arrive in a few weeks,” the director explained.

The Mayor urges households to assist in managing their garbage properly as the town hall is doing everything possible to ensure the city remains clean.
“We ask the population to know that they are the ones who produce the garbage and they have to manage it responsibly instead of getting rid of it by depositing it either on the public road, on the outskirts of the roads, or even in the courtyards of the neighbors“.

The city Mayor acknowledges the fact that the workload was too much for HYSACAM hence their poor output in some areas. He also has called on the two companies to work in collaboration to avoid any issues in the field.
