The government of Cameroon has said one of its priority projects this 2023 is to fight and eradicate drug consumption among the youths.
According to state media, about 60-70% of Cameroonian youths aged between 12 and 15 are into drugs consumption.
The blame has been tilted on parents, who are accused of raising their offspring in improper ways, as hilighted by Nloga Kevin, a practitioner at a detoxification centre in Yaounde.
“The first thing is to remove anything that can distract him/her, the second part is about the medical treatment while the third is about the psychotherapy and education to the victim,” Dr Ntone Samuel, a Psychiatrist said.
The consumption of these drugs have also resulted to the several deviant behaviors in schools and public places noted in Cameroon today.
The government has added that campaigns will be carried out in all ten regions of the country by the ministry of youth affairs and civic education to sensitize the population during the youth week.
Meanwhile parents and teachers have been encouraged to take better care of their children’s physical and psychological needs.
