Babadjou : second term resumption satisfactory

The second term of the 2022/2023 academic effectively began on Tuesday January 3rd 2023 with thousands of students and pupils across the country returning to their classrooms for another 3 months studies.

In Babadjou subdivision, Mr Youda Joseph, Pedagogic Inspector of Basic Education says he is satisfied with the turn out of his staff and pupils:

“On day one of the resumption, 98.58% of our staff and 92.67% of pupils were present. It is satisfactory and we hope before the end of the week, all of them will be present”.

The second term will be marked by some breaks such as the bilingualism week, the day of the mother tongue and the youth day.

“The major breaks will be used as tools to accompany our children so that they study in the best conditions. If we poorly manage these public holidays, our children will not perform well,” Youda Joseph adds.

Aloysius is head teacher of Government Bilingual Primary School Toumaka, a school whose Anglophone section is mainly made up of internally displaced pupils, from neighboring Wabane and Pinyin in Lebialem and Mezam divisions respectively. He says the turnout was very satisfactory even though most of the IDPs were not present on day one but adds that it can be explained by the distance they cover before reaching the school:

“The turnout this year is not different from the previous years because our school is mostly made up of IDPs. On day one we had only 210 pupils which was worrisome, but today we had above 290 out of the above 350 registered. Most of them are from Wabane in Lebialem and we understand because they have to cover a long distance”.

Most of the internally displaced pupils reach the school’s locality on Mondays and travel back on Fridays to spend weekends with their families.

For the challenges awaiting pupils in the Anglophone section, Mr Aloysius says he gave some tips to pupils to ensure they get better results during the second term:

“On day one, I told my children to be concentrated, the second term is three months as was the first, but full of public holidays. So children should not be distracted from their objectives and if they fail this term, they might repeat”.

The second term runs till March 31st when the Easter holiday period will begin
