Cameroon: 2023 UNIFFAC tournament postponed
By Nukapuh P
The 2023 U17 UNIFFAC tournament initially scheduled to kickoff on Saturday January 7th in Limbe has been postponed.
According to information gathered from various sources, the competition which is organised for players under the age of 17 in countries of the Central African sub-region has been pushed forward to Thursday January 12 in Limbe, South West region.
It is reported that the postponment is linked to some pre-match conditions like medical screening for participating countries, which is to avoid age manipulation, as well as other formalities.
This postponment is however coming up after the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) recently dismissed 21 players who were in camp ahead of the competition at the CAF Excellence centre Mbankomo for age manipulations.
The U17 UNIFFAC tournament is expected to bring together four teams, including host/defending champions, Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville.
At the end of the competition, top two teams from the sub-region will be eligible to participate in the 2023 under 17 African Nations Championship to take place in Algeria from April 8th to 30th.
While in Algeria, a total of 12 teams will battle to secure the first four tickets to qualify for the 2023 under 17 world cup scheduled to take place in Peru.
