Roads still major problem in Wum
Inhabitants of Wum say authorities have abandoned their roads for several years now condemening them to live in horrible conditions.
They complain of spending three nights on the road just leaving Wum to Bamenda town:
“I must say although we are used to this situation, we want development. We the bike riders carry patients on our bikes and I for one had carried two patients who died before we got to the hospital. It was a terrifying experience and it was not because the hospital was far but due to the terrible road which cannot carry taxis or private vehicles. Someone with an emergency case hardly makes it alive as we spend hours on the road,” Godfred a bike rider in Wum complains.
The people also have made mention of the Bafut-Befang road leading to Wum which is a nightmare but is fortunately being worked on through the initiative of Honorable Walang.
“At least now we can smile a little but for how long ? How can an individual be doing what the government should be doing ? We bless God for this sweet initiative taken by this man to grate the Bafut road . Atleast cars can pass and it will ease our burden a little and if not of this same man who helped us during the rainy season, the Wum road by now would never be passable,” the President of Bike union of Wum says.
“Sometimes I get home and I cannot even play with my wife and kids and often she thinks maybe I do that with some other woman when I’m just naturally heavily exhausted from using a bike to Bamenda town. It is extremely difficult on us and in whatever way Wum offended the government, we are sorry. We are tired and have suffered from electricity to kidnappings to ransoms and now to road,” Kum Alfred a husband and father of 2 explains.
The people are praying that this good initiative started by Honorable Walang can get to the government so they join hands for a better Wum.
“We carry corpse from Bamenda to Wum, Wum to Bamenda and the only cars that often can access the road are those with 4 wheel drives. We really are grateful for what this Honorable is doing for the people of Wum,” Simon Nchang, a bike rider says.
The issue of electricity in Wum is still pending without a word yet from the authorities
