NWSW Governors say normalcy returning to conflict regions

The remarks were made on Monday, December 12, 2022, by Adolphe Lele L’afrique and Bernard Okalia Bilai, respectively Governors of the North West and South West Regions in their addresses to the press immediately after taking part in the second bi-annual Governors’ conference for the year 2022.

The conference that took place at the banquet hall of the Yaoundé city council was chaired by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji.

The regional governors reflected on the theme, “Administrative authorities confronted with the challenges of maintaining law and order, respecting citizen’s rights, implementing development projects and curbing inflation.”

The MINAT boss was accompanied in the task by other high government officials in the likes of George Olanga Obam, Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Galixth Etoga, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Martin Mbarga Nguele, Director General of National Security.

Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique of the North West region, after the conference, told the press that the
sociopolitical activities are regaining steam in the North West region and economic activities are booming as well!

” People are coming back to the region to celebrate their weddings, funerals, and the administration is functioning well even if some spots are still in difficulties. Traditional rulers are gradually coming back, political activities have resumed in many areas, for example, the recent celebration of the anniversary of Paul Biya’s ascension to power in the North West. Globally the North West is very well” declared Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique in a post-interview.

On his part, Bernard Okalia Bilai, South West Governor said his region is regaining normalcy after over five years of unrest. He also reported that there are budding activities in all divisional headquarters and the University of Buea is fully operational.

“The region is getting out of the situation you know very well, the main cities of the South West, Buea, Limbe, Tiko are welcoming the population, especially Internally Displaced Persons who are returning for various activities” Bernard Okalia Bilai revealed.

The Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga during the conference mentioned some alarming issues such as the role of the Municipal Police in society, chieftaincy disputes that are rampant, activities of NGOs, fight against inflation among others
