Cameroon safety nets project ends in Babadjou, IDPs get FCFA 120 000 each

Over 500 vulnerable households in Babadjou subdivision have this Saturday November 26, received their 6th and last monthly financial assistance under the Cameroon Safety Nets project.

For the past twelve months, the beneficiaries, mostly composed of internally displaced persons had been receiving the sum of F CFA 30,000 every two months to improve on their living conditions while improving behaviours related to their health, nutrition and education.

Mr Mondoh Vincent is an internally displaced person from Batibo who says he did not believe in the project when he first heard of it but his mind changed later:

“Truly speaking, when I was told of the safety nets project, I thought it was a scam. I have received a total amount of F CFA 120,000 since the project began and this money has been helpful to me. I paid my children’s fees with this.”

Ngwenjang Eunice is another Internally displaced from Boyo who says the project has been very important to her:

“It has also made me get integrated in the land easily. I no longer feel like an IDP here.”

The project in the subdivision began in August 2021 and the payment process began in December 2021.

The initiative from the government of Cameroon in partnership with the World Bank that was launched in 2012 nationwide, has seen 500 vulnerable households in Babadjou benefit from financial assistance.
