Incorporating accessories into the fashion world

By Nange Mbehni

Fashion is a usual trend in society and ranges from dresses to jewelry and other aspects. It has gone up to the level of being a topic of debate. Jewelry for some people is meant for places like ears, necks and hands. Other schools of thought have contradicting ideas as they embrace adding excess jewelry to their feet, ears and face while also doing tattoos. Incorporating anklets, waist beads, piercings and tattoos into the fashion field raises debates.

Carrey says she loves anklets but does not wear them:

“I love them (anklets) but I don’t wear them because my partner is not comfortable with them.”

As for tattoos and piercings, Carrey says she does not fancy them, “putting them hurts and I don’t really like attaching stuff to my skin except for the natural things.”

Kate on the other hand, says she adores tattoos, piercings, anklets and waist beads and has all these on:

“I love having these extra beauties on my body first for aesthetics and then my love for them. I have extra holes with additional jewelries on my ears. I have tattoos on my back and thighs and another on my arm. I always have anklets on. I just love the beauty that comes with them.”

Some people believe women who love and wear these accessories are “bad” and do not deserve to get married while others embrace them. Martin shares his experience:

“My wife loves and has piercings, anklets and waist beads on. Character wise, she is wonderful. When she wears these jewelries for too long, I purchase different sets for her. When I come across people and posts saying negative things about women who have all these accessories on, my only advise to them is for them to not depend too much on physical looks but on character because that is what will keep a home.”

“People who wear anklets have no problem,” Carrey continues, “I find anklets pretty, so I don’t mind those who were them. Times are changing, society has to change too. People cannot continue to judge people based on old beliefs.”

The debate on anklets, waist beads, tattoos and piercings done by women is one which will seem endless for a while.
