Yaounde: 12-year-old dies from rat poison

By Hans Ngala
The family of a 12-year old boy is in mourning after the boy ate a piece of meat that had been laced with rat poison this August 9th morning.
According to our sources, the boy was rushed to the Ekoumdoum Baptist Hospital in Yaounde with breathing difficulties and only after severe questioning did he admit that he had eaten a piece of meat sprinkled with rat poison.
“I heard that he was this kind of child that had a habit of doing exactly what he had been warned not to do because the mother showed him that this was a piece of meat that had been covered with rat poison but he still went behind his parents’ back and ate it. It is really sad” our source regretted.
We gathered that the boy is a student who came to Yaounde for holidays before the tragic turn of events.
At press time, the boy’s remains were still at Ekoumdoum Baptist Hospital while family and friends (some of whom were wailing uncontrollably) were still deciding on whether to transport the corpse to a mortuary or plan a quick burial.
Some hospital staff said that after consuming the poisoned meat meant for rats, the 12-year-old refused to tell his mother the truth and only when they rushed him to hospital did he open up and medical intervention was already too late as the poison had already caused irreversible damage to his organs.
