Girl attempts suicide after failing exams
A terminale student of the College Calasanz whose name CNA got as Christelle Bouzeka has attempted suicide after failing her Baccaleaureat examination.
Christelle is a student of Terminale F8 in a private institution situated in Bandjoun, West region of Cameroon and is now responding to treatment after consuming over a litre of kerosene.
Reports from the West region say the lady sent her details to the 8070 number to get her Baccaleaureat 2022 results but received “refusé” meaning she had failed. Unable to digest the failure, the technical student tried taking away her own life. She was saved thanks to the timely intervention of family and medics.
Secondary and high school students have been noted for acts of attempted suicide during the release of results of official exams in the country. In 2020, a boy named Cabrel took away his life after failing the BEPC examination.
