Government forces kill five civilians in Kumbo
All was moving on well in Kumbo, Bui division in the North West region. Locals were going about their daily activities. Some in the markets, shops, others at the motor parks while some gulped down liquor in local joints.
Sunday is usually a busy day. For those who know the context in the current armed conflict, certainly will tell you that the locals consider Sunday to be their Saturday and Monday , their Sunday. This is because of the ghost town imposed by the Separatists since January 9, 2017.
One of those who were feeling enjoying the cool Sunday where some young men seated in a local joint, drinking palm wine, a popular drink common in the grass field.
Government forces are said to have invaded the area around the Banso Baptist Hospital and killed four of the young men. Another man who was heading to the hospital was also killed. In all, five souls were taken away in less than one-minute invasion.
The reason for this massacre cannot be determined. Nevertheless, it is not a new thing that government forces invade places where young men are drinking suspecting that they could be Ambazonia fighters.
Witness recounts
Someone who came to the scene after the shooting, told CNA that there is a small beer parlour around the hospital. That the owner had gone out but had a bartender in charge. Government forces surrounded the area claiming that there was a separatist fighter in their midst.
They opened fire and gunned down five.
