Muslims accuse MINAT, threaten to boycott pilgrimage citing high cost

In several voice notes sent to our news desk, the Muslims expressed anger over what they described as the high cost of traveling to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.

Their anger is further explained by the differences in prices per traveler comparing other countries. The Faithfuls expressed shock that while neighboring Tchad has charged every traveler the sum of FCFA 1 840, 000, the Republic of Congo charges FCFA 2 950 000, the Cameroon government has fixed the charge at FCFA 3 900 000 while the private sector in Cameroon is organizing at FCFA 4 675 000.

Cameroonians traveling to Mecca will have to pay more than their counterparts in other countries and this has not been well digested.

In a bitter reaction, a prospective traveler blamed the Minister of Territorial administration, Paul Atnaga Nji. The former described the charges as broad day robbery.

“Atanga Nji wants to maintain the price. At the helm of this structure that concerns Muslims is someone who has nothing to do with us. He is the cause of this including corrupt Elites in the Grand North. Look at the prices of other countries, Nigeria, Mali, Central African Republic, and Cote D’Ivoire. These men are corrupt and have been rendering us poor for a long time” a disgruntled Muslim faithful said.
