FPAA decries use of black people to depict outbreak of monkeypox in western world

The images can be found on several websites including the BBC and ABC news sites. Black people covered in rashes to talk about the recent outbreak of monkeypox in the United States of America and Europe. The Foreign Press Association of Africa, FPAA says this is simply unacceptable.

In a communique dated May 21 2022 and signed by Chair Kennedy Wandera and other mebers of the executive, it is suggested that electron micrographs or images of hospitals in the USA or Europe be used in such articles. They further explain that using people of black skin to talk about monkeypox is another way of showing the perfect nature of the white race while highlighting the criminality of the black race. it is insensitive and should be stopped immediately.

About 80 cases of monkeypox have so far been detected in Spain, the United Kingdom and Portugal. The USA authorities say their very first case of the monkeypox this 2022 was detected in a man who traveled to Canada and it is unclear if he is connected to others who are suffering from the disease in the country.
