20 Women Petition UN Security Council Over Armed Conflict In Cameroon
In a memorandum addressed to the United Nations Security Council, the women decry the death of over 10.000 Cameroonians from 2012 till date in the various crises, and more than 1 million children who have been deprived of education not leaving out violation of human rights. Demanding Cameroon be put on the agenda of the UNSC with an in-depth analysis of various conflicts as rising insecurity in border countries could make matters worse.
The armed conflict in the northwest and southwest regions that started since 2016 has taken many lives and the women have asked that this be discussed in the UNSC. To them, this is the only way Cameroon can solve the conflict and restore peace.
The solution to them could be effected in three phases;
-Immediate term i.e. reducing tension, improving humanitarian treatment, and establishing respect of human rights.
-Short-term solutions entail negotiating a ceasefire with non-state armed fighters on the ground, rendering justice accordingly, and resolving the underlying causes of the various conflicts.
The 20 female politicians, civil society activists, and private investors including; Kah Wallah of the CPP, Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya mayor of Foumban, Rebecca Enonchong CEO of AppsTech, Judith Nwana human rights advocate, and several other women also urged the International Monetary Fund, IMF, to suspend aid destined for Cameroon until the first 180 billion FCFA sent to fight COVID-19 is accounted for and also that the IMF takes key measures in resolving the Anglophone crisis.
What has now become COVID-Gate has led to auditioning of more than 13 government ministers directly involved in the management of the funds. Several Government ministers have been banned from travelling out of Cameroon until investigations are completed.
On Wednesday night, unknown men stormed the Supreme State audit premises in Yaoundé and made away with computers in a bid to frustrate investigations.
