7 perish in another Boko Haram attack in Far North
Four civilians and three military officers have perished in an attack perpetrated by Boko Haram militants in the Hitawa military post, in the Tourou canton. These new victims add to the 35 deaths reported last month in the same area.
This new attack was reported at 3am on May 31 2022. 40 houses have been burnt down, 2 bikes stolen, 6 persons are currently in a medically critical state at the hospital in Koza while two teenagers a boy and a girl have been abducted.
The attack comes a few weeks after the people of Tourou protested over increasing attacks from Boko Haram militants at the governor’s office and were assured by Governor MIDJIYAWA BAKARY that their security concerns would be looked into.
Cameroon has been at war with Boko Haram assailants since 2014. Cameroon’s public health ministry reports that so far, about 35 hospitals along the Cameroon-Nigeria border have either been deserted or destroyed by the group’s assailants.
Human rights watch in its 2021 report stated that about 80 civilians have died and over 340 thousand people made internally displaced persons.
