5 amazing Christmas gifts for children
By Stephen TADAHA
We are in the month of December, a festive month in which many people especially Christians, celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, and the New Year, a week after.
As the period draws near, parents uphold the tradition of offering gifts to their children.
The choice of a gift is usually determined by many factors ranging from the means available, to the kids’ preferences while others are based on the educative worth of the gifts.
Here are some 5 amazing educative gifts we propose for kids during this festive period.
1- Scrabble gifts: Playing Scrabble will expand the child’s vocabulary and improve his literacy skills. Scrabble also tests the child’s memory he/she learns more words in the dictionary and recall them in-game. Many people are surprised to learn that Scrabble has plenty of math involved, too.
2- Kitchen Utensils : For kids especially girls, that could mean tools that help them learn how to cook, develop fine motor skills, or excite them about cooking. It’s also best if the gift serves multiple purposes. A cooking spoon, for example, can mix batter, push eggs around, or even serve food out of a bowl.
3- Piano : Music is a powerful tool for self-expression and helps us tap into our emotions in ways words cannot. That’s why learning to play an instrument, like the piano, woodwinds or strings, benefits children. In addition to unconscious benefits like increased memory and math skills, playing the piano helps develop a number of important life skills, not to mention fostering passion, commitment, talent and joy.
4- Toy Cars : These toys are great for embracing creativity. Your little one can set up car races, prepare rescue missions with emergency vehicles (like ambulances and fire trucks), and operate people-moving carriers (like boats and trains). But the benefits of toy vehicles doesn’t stop there. It’s also a fantastic way for kids to explore the world around them – as well as stimulate motor, cognitive, and social skills.
5- Building and Construction Toys (Building blocks) : These are a powerful (and fun!) educational tool that can do wonders for a young child’s development, helping them to pick up and refine key skills such as:
Improved hand-eye coordination
Dexterity & motor skills
Enhanced concentration & attention span
Problem-solving abilities
Turn-taking & teamwork
Maths lessons (like patterns & symmetry)
Understanding of cause & effect
Speech & language development
Creativity & imagination
Knowledge of scientific concepts (such as gravity & balance)
