3 killed in boko haram insurgencies in far north
Three persons are reported dead following an attack by the Boko Haram group in the locality of Assighassia, Mayo Tsanaga division of the Far North region.
Reports reveal that the terrorist group invaded the Assighassia village on March 6th and attacked the population. Two civilians were killed including a woman and three others were injured. They also made away with some important valuables. One of the victims amongst those injured later on gave up the ghost while he was being treated by elements of the Rapid Intervention Batallion, BIR, in Mora.
The other victims are reportedly being attended to by BIR elements in Kerala.
In the past months, Boko Haram has been multiplying attacks against the population in the Far North region, especially those residing at the boundary localities with neighboring Nigeria.
The Human Rights Watch group noted in a report released at the end of 2022 that “Boko Haram is waging a war against the Cameroonian people whose human cost is shocking with dozens of deaths recorded since 2014”.
It also noted that the government should urgently adopt and implement a new rights-respecting strategy to protect civilians in danger in this region as the Far North increasingly serves as the center of Boko Haram violence.
