3 girls in police custody for assaulting lady
Three women are remanded in custody at a police station in Buea, South West region of Cameroon for torturing a woman.
The assailants accused their victim, whose name CNA got as Minette, of dating the same man one of them had a baby with. It was reported by blogger Bella Power’s Voice that the attacker sent text messages to the victim pretending to be their mutual boyfriend and asking that they meet at a location stated in the message. Upon arrival, Minette was beaten up, her hair was shaved off and a hot iron was used to burn her body. In the video which the attackers filmed using Minette’s phone, the women could also be seen asking her to open her legs so they film her naked. It was later alleged that they used a stick to introduce pepper in her private parts before pouring water on her and obliging her to walk naked in the streets. The women then used Minette’s phone to share these videos to all her contacts and even to WhatsApp status.
The matter has been taken up to competent authorities. The main assailant’s boyfriend is reported to have declared while at the Police station that he was against these acts of violence. He was given their baby for better care while its mother stayed locked up.
It is another case which has brought to light the frequency of women on women crime in Cameroon and hopefully this time, the sanctions put in place for such crimes will be fully enforced.
