Kumba 1 D.O “bribes” Protesting Women with One Bar Soap

A group of women from Bonakama, located on Buea Road in the Kumba I Sub-Division, protested on Friday due to ongoing water crisis that has persisted for months. Despite paying their bills, Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, Camwater, has not provided any reasons for the lack of water service to the residents of this area.

While the women were on their way to CAMWATER office, they were intercepted by the Divisional officer of Kumba Ali Anogu, who asked them to trash away their peace plants and return home.
He promised that the situation will be handled, even though much wasn’t explained as to when water will be restored.

Note should be taken that Bonakama is just one of the many quarters in Kumba, suffering from water crises. Some quarters especially in Barombi Kang had suffered for years without water flowing from thier taps.

In the following amateur video, you’ll watch the DO asking the women to trash thier peace plants.
As the women returned back to their quarter, the DO offered a cube of savon each.

At the moment, the population still trek to far off areas to fetch water from a stream, while others have choice than the dirty water they obtain from wells, most of which are even dry.
