2026WCQ: Lesotho holds the super eagles to a draw

By Biwah Bryan

Nigeria’s Super Eagles kicked off their 2026 World Cup campaign on a challenging note, drawing 1-1 against the resilient Lesotho team in Group C at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Thursday.

Despite dominating possession, the 2013 African Cup of Nations winners failed to capitalize on clear-cut opportunities to score against their opponents.

Things took a turn for the worse when Mkwanazi scored for Lesotho in the 56th minute with  assistance from Francis Uzoho’s poor ball judgement.

Semiu Ajayi’s late equalizer in the 67th minute gave the Super Eagles hope but their attempts to score proved futile as Lesotho’s tight defense held on till the final whistle.
