2026WCQ: Ethiopia and Sierra Leone split points in a goalless draw played under foggy conditions

By Biwah Bryan

The African Zone’s 2026 World Cup Qualifications kicked off on November 15, with the Ethiopia versus Sierra Leone game having the most attention.

The game between the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia and the Leone stars was negatively impacted by poor weather conditions at the El Abdi Stadium, resulting in an uneventful match that featured no goals and zero shots on target.

The game was halted three times by the officiating team due to the adverse weather conditions in the stadium at the time of play

It’s worth noting that Ethiopia and 16 other African teams are currently faced with the challenge of playing on foreign pitches as their home stadiums do not meet international standards.

Sierra Leone’s next match sees them take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in Liberia’s capital, while Burkina Faso will visit Ethiopia in Morocco for their upcoming fixture.

Other day 1 fixtures slated for November 16 include

Egypt vs Djibouti
Sudan vs Togo
Nigeria vs Lesotho
Gabon vs Kenya
Burundi vs Gambia
Botswana vs Mozambique
Morocco vs Eritea
Algeria vs Somalia
Cape Verde vs Angola
