2025 Presidential Elections: ADE pushes for more youth votes
By Nchendzengang Tatah
Over three million registered Cameroonians did not take part in the 2018 presidential elections, according to Action for Development (ADE), an NGO that focuses on youth empowerment towards development. ADE is now taking steps to encourage more Cameroonian youth voter participation in the 2025 presidential elections.
During a training in Yaounde on November 25 that was dubbed “My Vote, My Voice Project”, the civil society organization engaged over fifty youth from different walks of life to discuss the challenges of mobilization and effective participation during the upcoming polls.
The sessions were interactive and facilitated by subject matter experts, some from Nigeria. The event’s organizer, Ndi Nancy who is also Executive Director of ADE was satisfied with the exchanges during the event, stating “I’m happy with the outcome and excited towards what these young persons will do”.
The young people selected were leaders in their respective communities. Among them was Yong Alfred Fang, focal person at Glorious Care Foundation, an organization that operates in the Boyo Division of the restive North West Region.
“I think the workshop was interesting. I’ve learned the roles and responsibilities of all those parts of the electoral process. I think I’m well-armed to educate my peers” Yong said.
He, unlike his fellow attendees, lives in a part of the country where young voters will likely face difficulty in casting their ballots but has pledged to do his best to pass across the message from the training he got.
A similar training took place on October 27 in Ngaoundere where issues discussed included an electoral calendar overview.
