2021-2022 cocoa season: Cameroon gets F CFA 288 billion from exports
The sum is from a total of 217 million kilogrammes of cocoa exported to Europe, Asia and America within the 2021-2022 cocoa season. Telcar cocoa has the greatest exports with 65.66%.
Making public the developments in the cocoa sector in Cameroon, the National Cocoa and Coffee Board adds that 319 million kilogrammes of cocoa have been sold to exporters, transformers and independent buyers.
The centre region is the main cocoa supplier in Cameroon with a 45.39% production, closely followed by the South West with 31.18% and the Littoral is next with 11.1%. The South, West, East, North West and Adamawa regions follow these three in order of merit.
Launching the 2022-2023 cocoa season, the minister of agriculture and rural development said the government and the cocoa and coffee fund will invest F CFA 40 million between 2022 and 2026 to boost local production and make Cameroon cocoa more competitive.
In the 2020-2021 cocoa season, just 201 million kilogrammes of cocoa were exported. Despite the improvement, cocoa seeds from Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana are still the most expensive on the global market.
