Cameroonian youth to be trained on vehicle repair and assembling techniques

A group of experts from Germany is said to be in Cameroon for a three-year programme which will see Cameroonians trained on car repair and assembling techniques. This is hanks to an initiative of the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training.

“This training center basically deals with auto-mechanics. So they have a lot of experience, and they have a lot to bring on board. This partnership is like a win-win situation,” said Prudence Forchap Essandem Nkong , Secretary General at the Ministry of employment. She explained that the initiative will transform the car repair domain in Cameroon and give it the image it deserves.

Thanks to this training, it is hoped that the degrading look many Cameroonians cast on the domain will be a thing of the past.

“I think many people have been made to consider the mechanic work as one with low prestige,” Eric Mbah in Yaounde said. “In my opinion, it is something that has much potential. More cars bought means more work for the mechanics. It must not be looked like a dirty job.”

The rate at which kids are integrating into the sector is a worry to others. They think dropping out of school to do the job is not proper.

“I would allow my child to be a car mechanic if they want to but if my child is going into the activity, I would want that they go with a different kind of mindset, which of course is going to come with education,” a parent in Douala highlighted.

The SG of the Ministry of employment has said the experience being brought by the German group will boost the sector in Cameroon.
