Recently, a group of these hoodlums about 40 in number according to security sources stormed the Douala central market attacking traders and depriving them of their money and expensive goods.

“About 40 suspects attacked the central market in Douala and made away with mobile telephones, laptops, and other expensive articles. Arriving at the scene after we were alerted, they had escaped. Based on firm instruction from our boss to track them down, we opened an investigation. Two days after we arrested the first suspect who helped us to arrest 10 of his accomplices.” A police officer told the press.

The suspected criminals were presented to the public on Tuesday, August 30, alongside deadly objects they used to scare the population. Hard drugs were also in their possession.

As insecurity begins showing its ugly face barely few days to back to school, the security officials also pledged to be everywhere to give the population of Douala the needed protection.

What they expect from the population is only collaboration by denouncing suspects, especially during this period of back-to-school preparations.

“We noticed that some people fear denouncing suspects because they will be visited and harmed for doing so. We plead on you to call us, give us the information that you have and we assure quick arrival and arrest of the suspect before you know it.” Added the security officer.

Meantime, the 11 suspected “microbes” are in police custody awaiting court trial.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining 19 gang members, CNA learned.
