10 year-old girl survives attempted murder by her father

Inhabitants of Beedi-Plateau, a neighborhood in the Douala V sub division are still in shock over the brutality of their neighbour who reportedly grabbed a knife to murder his own daughter:

“It has been two days now but each time I look at the little girl, I wonder how she will look at men and life now” Ousman, a neighbour who participated in the rescue of the 10-year-old victim wonders.

The girl whose name has been hidden, had always been receiving beatings from her father each time she went wrong. On October 3, tired of her father’s wrath, the young girl closed the door and left him outside as he stepped out to calm himself. This act further enraged him and he broke into the house, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her under the eyes of her helpless mother, whom we learn is equally a victim of violence inflicted by her partner.

“We heard her scream, ‘help, help. He will kill my child…’ Neighbours rushed and fought hard to free the girl and take the knife” Ousman narrates.

Forces of law and order were called to intervene but 24hrs after the arrest of the violent man, he was set free and returned to the vicinity.

The asssailant is a bike rider in Douala and comes from the North region.
