Alumna makes history, becomes Principal of Saker Baptist College Limbe

By Ngala Hansel

Mrs. Hannah Mojoko Motutu has officially taken over as Principal of Saker Baptist College in Limbe, South West region, becoming the first former student of the school to occupy that office.

The 50-year-old Mrs. Motutu was appointed as Principal in June 2022 by the Executive President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC), Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne.

She takes over from Mr. Ghawi Shomsi Wilfred who served as Principal since 2016 but will continue serving at the school in another capacity.

The official handing over took place June 18 in the presence of the CBC Executive President, Rev. Dr. Nditemeh; the CBC Education Secretary, Mr. Nyanganji Job, and a host of other leaders, guests, and staff of the institution.

The all-girls Saker Baptist College was created in 1962 by the then Cameroon Baptist Mission (later the CBC) in collaboration with the North American Baptist Conference (NABC).

The appointment of Mrs. Motutu marks the first time ever for a former student to become Principal of the school in its more than 60 years of existence.

Mrs. Motutu graduated from Saker Baptist College in 1988.
In the past, all Principals of Saker used to be missionaries sent by the NABC and the first Cameroonian to become principal of Saker was Mr. William Nso Tayui who was in office from 1972 to 1991. He was followed by the late Mr. Tetevi Bodylawson.

Saker is one of the most prestigious boarding schools of the CBC and Mrs. Hannah Motutu’s appointment at the helm of the institution has been celebrated across the CBC as she will have to see to it that the high educational and moral standards which the school is known for, are actually upheld.

Mrs. Motutu has 15 years of experience as Principal of Baptist Comprehensive High School in Buea.
Located in the SW which is home to one of the conflict-hit Anglophone regions means she will have to see to it that learning is also conducted on a secure campus.
