NW Ring Road: Contractors carry out feasibility studies
MAG Sarl, the construction company that was awarded the contract to construct the 31 km stretch of the National Number 11 road linking Ndu-Bika and Nkambe, in the North West region, has carried out feasibility studies on the site, the Ministry of Public Works revealed.
“Work underway on the site involves topographical surveys, reconnaissance of laterite borrow sites, construction of the company’s base camp, and cleaning up the rock quarry site. According to the schedule presented by the company, the geotechnical studies are due to start and the topographical surveys are due to continue between kilometer points 39+000 and 53+200, and 63+400 -70+000.” The Ministry said on Tuesday.
MAG Sarl will be paid close to FCFA 30 billion for the project. But despite this survey, road users may have to wait for more as revelation indicated that rainfall is preventing the company from transporting its mechanized works equipment, as a number of quagmires have formed along the route, making the road impassable in certain areas.
MAG Sarl will have to build a “Concrete road between Ndu-Binka-Nkambe with a width of 7 m and a 1.5 m shoulder on either side of the carriageway in rural areas, and a width of 14 m (3. 522) with 1.5 m of pavement on either side of the carriageway and a 0.57 m DBA separator in built-up areas. Additional 3 m lanes are also provided in areas with steep gradients.” Statistics revealed.
The Ring Road had become a campaign project by the ruling CPDM party whose bigwigs often used the construction of the road to score political points but never fulfilled their promises.
It is hoped that this is not another failed promise as inhabitants anxiously await the commencement.
