CHRDA says October 2022 was dreadful in NW/SW

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) in its recent report has stated that throughout the month of October, civilians were caught in a quagmire as defense forces and non-state armed actors continue battling. Over 15 people have died, several houses razed and money lost to various raids and attacks.

During their research, the CHRDA revealed that defense and security forces were involved in 6 attacks geared towards fishing out separatist warlords in various communities in the North West region and 1 in the South West region. The report further states that state armed actors forced school children to enroll in government schools in Tobin-Kumbo in the Bui division causing panic while on October 9 in Djottin, BIR elements also reportedly tortured a civilian in front of his wife and children violating human rights.

The case of Ewume John Eko known as Moja Moja was not left out for he has been harassing and torturing civilians in Buea-South West region as can be seen via several videos which surfaced online.

Findings on the part of non-state armed actors portray 9 attacks with two in the South West region. Attack on the residence of the mayor of Wum, attacks on financial institutions and military equipment and control posts. Defense and security forces in October, were the main target of non-state armed actors as per the CHRDA report. Security forces were attacked on the Mbengwi-Alabukum road, in a bar in Babessi village, ambushed in Kakar village and an IED detonated on their vehicle during a patrol in Boyo division.

Faced with the unrest, civilians in Konene village in Boyo division faced separatists and made away with some of their equipment. Nonetheless, several houses were destroyed, properties looted and many people have escaped to other communities for safety.

Government authorities are yet to make any comments on these newest allegations.
