Bagam Chieftaincy saga takes new twist

By Stephen TADAHA

An angry crowd on Monday October 23, stormed the premises of the SDO’s office and some major streets in Mbouda, chief town of the Bamboutos division in the West region, demanding the release of Paul Biya Nzossie Mathurin Moyebe, who was arrested by security forces. The man according to them is the legal heir to the Bagam throne and should be freed. He was arrested after being accused of creating disorder at the Bagam Palace for over 3 years.

The population believed to be consituted mostly of natives of Bagam in Galim subdivision, held peace plants, requesting the immediate restoration of peace in their land.

“Free our Fon, we want our Fon,” they crowd chanted.

Also among the furious crowd, were some elderly women who took off their clothes in front of the Senior Divisional Officer’s office to express their discontent. They explained that the Fon, Tendop Nzossie Dieudonne recently approved by administrative authorities, is not the legal heir to the throne and accused administrative authorities of manipulation.

As a result of the protests, two bikes were reduced to ashes, a store was vandalized and circulation frozen.

It should be recalled that a crisis erupted at the second class chiefdom since the passing away of Fon Simo Tenkeu Nzossie Jean Marie in 2020 with two factions claiming rights to the throne.
