By Wilson Musa

The circumstance leading to their arrest is narrated like a movie, giving one a pictorial idea of the fast-and-furious scene in the Douala 3 area, near the River Wouri.

The three suspects charged with attempts and conspiracy, dangerous preparations, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of knife, sale, possession, and consumption of narcotics, were presented to a State Prosecutor at the Douala Military Court on Monday.

Company Commander of the Douala 1 Brigade, Babila Lancho told the Press on September 5, 2022, that they received a distress call from a businessman on August 25, 2022. The man suspected five individuals standing around “La Marina 2000 hotel”. With the cold, the silent whistle from the River, and the sweet evening breeze, their victim was just a few minutes to be attacked but they met their waterloo.

Two Gendarme elements dressed in mufti intercepted the suspects onboard two motorbikes. One of the suspects was furious in a phone call, asking his partner to meet them at a new location as soon as possible.

But they were not able to move. In a fast action, the two Gendarmes stopped them as they attempted to flee. Nouteh Daril, 21, opened fire to disperse the crowd and find an escape corridor while two others, Araka Bienvenu, 26, and Tchamako Jordan, 20, hit their bike, fell, and dived into the river.

Fishermen along the river in Youpwé also dived into the waters and caught Araka Bienvenu while Tchamako died, and his body was retrieved three days later.

Three of the five were arrested, Nouteh, Araka, and a third, Abraham Nyandan.

A fourth person, Ibrahim is on the run.

Gendarmes also revealed that they seized the sum of FCFA 1, 150, 000 from Daril, plus a gun, ammunition, cocaine, and daggers.
